Network 6

Mission Statement:

To improve the lives of people with or at risk for End Stage Renal Disease by promoting and advancing quality of care.

Members

The Southeastern Kidney Council's board and committees are comprised of volunteer patients and professional staff from the renal community. Each board and committee member supports CMS contract goals and initiatives for Network 6.

  • Board of Directors and Executive Committee

The members of the Board of Directors manage and direct the business of the Southeastern Kidney Council. They hire the Executive Director, appoint members of the Medical Review Board and committee chairs, as well as approve Network 6 work plans, initiatives and budgets. Officers from the Board make up the Executive Committee membership. The Executive Committee may act upon behalf of the Board, whenever necessary.

  • Medical Review Board

A principal activity of the Medical Review Board is to direct Quality Improvement Projects (QIP) and activities by reviewing performance data, selecting intervention facilities and monitoring the quality of care provided to patients. Members work with the Network 6 Consumer Committee members to develop patient educational materials and consult on difficult grievance situations. Together, these two committees make recommendations to the Board of Directors about the evaluation and resolution of patient grievances.

  • Consumer Committee
Network 6 has defined the term ‘consumer' to include both patients and their family members who share an interest and concern for ESRD issues. The Committee's primary function is to develop the Network's patient grievance procedure along with education materials pertinent to assisting patients and their needs. They also report to the board and other committees about consumer views and concerns, quality of care topics, and issues related to patient grievances and patient rights.
  • Data Committee

Functions for the Data Committee include review of data compliance issues that may require further monitoring or recommendation for CMS sanctions. The Committee reviews the Network Annual Report content and analyzes special studies conducted by the Network for CMS initiatives, the United States Renal Data System, and for other renal and research organizations.

Volunteer Opportunities

One of the greatest strengths of the ESRD Network program is the expertise and guidance provided by the volunteers members serving on our Board and Committees. If you are a patient or work as a renal professional and you are interested in learning more about serving as a member, please contact us.
